Who's coming to town and where are they playing? Here's our best bets.Who's on tour? Are they coming to town? Where are they playing? And when? Lucky for us, San Diego has a lot of quality venues to watch live music - from the large (Coors Amphitheatre) to the intimate (the Casbah) to everything in-between. So we have an opportunity to see a wide variety of musical acts and genres (even though some major tours still bypass San Diego for L.A.)
The concert season is starting to heat up, with Humphrey's, Viejas and the San Diego County Fair announcing their 2006 lineups. And it's looking to be an exciting concert year, from veteran acts to the up-and-coming artists. Here's a month-by-month rundown of select bands and artists coming to town. I've highlighted my Guide Picks below for each month - you can click on the links to see the full calendar grid listing of shows. You gotta get out to the classic car shows.
The 3rd Thursday of June through September, the streets of downtown Encinitas will be rockin' and rollin' when “Rods & Woodies on 101” cruise night series returns. Beginning on Thursday, June 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., hot rods, classic cars and woodies will cruise down Highway 101 for one of the top classic car gatherings in San Diego County. Classic cars will park along Highway 101 between “D” Street and the Lumberyard for public display. This year there will be live music in front of Encinitas Smog at 682 S. Coast Hwy 101.
The Rods & Woodies series promises to provide a unique venue for classic car enthusiasts and promotion for downtown Encinitas and its many unique businesses. Held on June 16, July 21, August 18 and September 15, unique awards will be presented to the best cars in categories such as best paint job, best interior, and best woodie, as selected by that night's participating sponsor. All classic car collectors are invited to attend and display their car! Great American Cars on a Great American Main Street!
